SECTION IV BOYS TENNIS: NEWARK VALLEY COMPETES IN CLASS C/D TOURNAMENT (2024-05-08)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley competed in the Section IV Class C/D Boys Tennis Championships Wednesday and came away with a few victories.

The doubles team of Eric Hunt and Michael Medina scored a pair of victories in doubles play.

The duo defeated Watkins Glen’s Max Ricca and Enric Lin in the first round, then topped Elmira Notre Dame’s Isabella Busch and Abby Hart in the quarterfinals. Their tournament ended with a loss to Union Springs’ George Fearon and Collin Park.

In singles, the Cardinals’ Danny Pirger bested Waverly’s Nate McEwen in the first round, then fell to Southern Cayuga’s MK Vitale in the quarters.

Michael Wandell competed in the singles tournament as well, dropping his first round match to Lansing’s Fisher Boerman. Boerman, who played doubles during the regular season, advanced to the championship match against teammate Franciszek Dos, the Bobcats’ No. 1 singles player.

Also playing for NV was the doubles team of Hailey Engbith and Emma Smith. They lost their first round match to Notre Dame’s Mariana Alanis and Divye Agrawal.
