SAYRE’S QUIROS NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS’ “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Quiros
placed in three events, winning two of them, and set a new meet record
in the 200-meter dash at the Blue Jay Classic at Central Columbia High
School.
Quiros won the 400-meter dash in a meet-record time of
50.55 seconds — sixth fastest in Pa., and the fastest in District 4 this
season. He also won the 200-meter dash in 23.27 seconds, and was third
in the 100-meter dash in 11.59 seconds.
Honorable Mentions:
Owego’s Conlan Taylor (baseball), Canton’s Holden Ward (baseball),
Notre Dame’s Finn Schweitzer (lacrosse), and Cowanesque Valley’s Levi
Stahli (baseball).
HORSEHEADS’ YEARICK NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS’ “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”Yearick batted .556 (10 hits in 18 at-bats) with five runs scored, three home runs, one double, and 11 RBI on the week.
Yearick
was 3-for-3 game with a home run, RBI and run scored against Sidney,
then had two home runs, three hits, four RBI and four runs scored in a
win over division champion and state-ranked Corning.
Yearick was
3-for-4 with six RBI in a win over Cicero-North Syracuse at the
Morabito Tournament. She also doubled in Horseheads’ loss to St. Mary’s
Lancaster in the opening game of the tournament.
