STAC TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO GIRLS CLINCH CENTRAL TITLE (May 7, 2024)

OWEGO — The Owego girls track & field team won 12 of 17 events to defeat Chenango Valley, 89-45, and clinch first place in the STAC Central Division.

“It was a real team effort, with 14 different girls scoring points for the team,” coach Scott Senko said.

Jaelyn Chrysler and Stella Palladino won four events each, scoring 20 team points apiece as the River Hawks improved to 4-1 overall.

The boys team put up a solid effort as well, but came up just short of CV, 75-66. Owego won eight events.

“The boys team lost a close meet to a good Chenango Valley boys team,” Senko said. “Fifteen different boys scored points for the team.”

GIRLS
Palladino won the 100 (:13.1), 200 (:28.4), 400 (no time reported) and pole vault (6-0), and Chrysler took the 1500 (5:17) and 3,000 (11:21), and ran on a pair of winning relays, the 4x400 (no time reported) and 4x800 (12:07).

Lilly Lafever won the 800 (2:48.1), took second in the 1500 (5:49), third in the 200 (:30.6) and was a member of the 4x800 relay.

Taylor Dalton won the long jump (14-7), finished second in both the 100 (:13.6) and 200 (:29.0) and ran a leg of the 4x400 relay.

Taylor Signs set a new personal best of 26-11 in the triple jump on her way to winning the event.

Sidney Senko finished second in both the 400 (no time reported) and the 400 hurdles (1:22.1) and was also part of the 4x400 relay.

Sophia Lee, Mary Cox, Isabella Kochis and Eleanora Palmer won the 4x100 relay (1:00.3).

Kochis was second in the long jump (13-6) and Lee was third (12-8).

Jewel Belokur and Abby McHugh were on the 4x800 relay.

McHugh was the runner-up in the 3,000 (12:42) and finished third in the 1500 (5:52).

Ebba Lindhout was third in the 100 hurdles (:19.1) and 100 (:14.4) and was part of the 4x400 relay).

Belokur was third in the 800 (3:14.4).

Palmer claimed third in the discus (64-0).

Nora Schuyler came in third in the 400 (no time reported).

BOYS
Jaeden King won the 100 (:11.3) and 200 (:24.5), and was also on two winning relay teams, the 4x100 (:46.4) and 4x400 (3:59).

Dawson Bell won the 400 hurdles (1:07.3) and was on the 4x400 relay.

Sam Cunningham won the pole vault (11-3).

Brady Senko leapt 36-11 to win the triple jump, and also placed second in the 110 hurdles (:19.7) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:08.6).

Javan Belokur ran what coach Senko called “a great race” to win the 3200 (11:12).

Adam Llewellyn finished second in the 100 (:11.7) and 200 (:24.7), and was also on the winning 4x100 relay.

Billy Huddleston and Matt Samuelson were members of the 4x100 relay. Springsteen took third in the 100 hurdles (:20.5) and Huddleston was third in the 100 (:11.7).

Jaxson Belokur ran a leg of the 4x400 relay.

Bryson Castro took second in the 400 (:57.1) and was part of the 4x400 relay.

Deric Singer was second in the 1600 (4:58).

Matt Springsteen was second in the long jump (16-7 ¾).

Caleb Hoover continued to throw well in the discus, according to coach Senko, finishing second (120-8).

Liam Bell came in third in the 200 (:25.2).

Hunter Pitcher placed third in the long jump (16-6 ½).

“It was a great night for Owego track and field,” coach Senko said. “We are looking really strong heading into the championship part of the season. We have a few athletes who are returning from injuries and many are performing at their best right now.

“I am excited to see how we stack up at the Parkhurst Invitational this weekend.”

The Parkhurst is Saturday at noon at Union-Endicott.
