IAC TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY SPLITS WITH DRYDEN (2024-04-24)

NEWARK VALLEY — Zion King was a triple winner, Dan Truesdail picked up a pair of victories and six other Cardinals were triumphant as the Newark Valley boys and girls track & field teams split with Dryden in an IAC meet Tuesday.

The boys registered a closely-contested 72-68 victory while the girls fell by a 99-41 verdict.

BOYS
King recorded winning times of 12.2 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 25.6 seconds in the 200. He also leapt 37-8 3/4 to take the triple jump.

Truesdail topped the throwers with an impressive toss of 119-11 ½ in the discus and 38-0 ¼ in the shot put.

Also winning were Elijah Williams in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.2, Logan Rhodes in the pole vault at 9-6 and Titus Callahan in the high jump at 5-4.

Callahan’s win secured the victory as he collected five team points in the final event. John Sloughter added an extra point by taking third at 4-10. NV led by a point entering the high jump.

Newark Valley’s second-place finishers were Williams in the 110 hurdles (:20.0), Marcos Escalante in the 1600 (5:33.2) and 3200 (12:48), Callahan in the 400 (:59.1), King in the long jump (17-7 ½), Andrew Lelick in the pole vault (7-0), the 4x400 relay (3:59.5) and 4x800 relay (9:21.06).

Taking third were Rhodes in the 100 (:12.8) and 200 (:28.1), Jack Blomberg in the 110 hurdles (:22.5), Leland Houston in the 1600 (5:10.6), Sloughter in the 400 hurdles (1:23.8), Valentin Perdrix in the 800 (2:30.1), Austin Cotrill in the shot put (31-11 ¼) and Williams in the triple jump (34-6 ¼).

GIRLS
Anika Smith won the 400 with a time of 1:11.2, Leah Lansing took the 800 in 2:52.7 and Bella King claimed the discus with a throw of 70-10 ½.

Finishing second were Harley Switzer in the 1500 (5:27.9) and 3,000 (12:17.7), Adriana Rich in the shot put (24-1), Smith in the pole vault (7-0), Emily LaPorte in the triple jump (27-11 ¾), the 4x100 relay (:58.4), the 4x400 relay (5:14.7) and the 4x800 relay (12:50.21).

Coming in third were Madilyn Jordan in the 100 hurdles (:18.11), Harley Keith in the 100 (:15.8), Brook Illsley in the 1500 (5:43.9), Iris McCloskey in the 400 (1:16.8), LaPorte in the 400 hurdles (1:21.3), Mallory Gregrow in the 800 (3:14.3), Smith in the 200 (:29.8), Ryan Schweckdieck in the discus (63-7), King in the shot put (23-10 ¾), Kam Short in the long jump (12-10) and Olivia Webb in the high jump (4-4).

Newark Valley competes in the Ithaca Relays Friday.
