BINGHAMTON — Carsten Crawford twirled a one-hitter to lead Owego to a 9-1 victory over Chenango Forks in STAC softball action Monday.
Crawford struck out a dozen batters in the process. She walked three and didn’t allow any earned runs.
Back-to-back errors led to Forks’ lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning, and it came after Owego had done all its scoring for the day.
The River Hawks jumped onto a 7-0 cushion in the first inning. Alex Aubel, Ava Brown, Miley Laubach, Maia Smith, Jill Lewis and Kylie Grippen rapped singles while Crawford, RaeAnn Craft and Aubel reached on errors as the team batted around the order, and then some.
Laubach doubled, Smith and Craft singled, Lewis reached on an error and Grippen drew a base on balls as Owego extended its lead to 9-0 in the fifth.
The River Hawks cranked out 10 hits with Laubach going 3-for-4 with two runs and Smith going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Lewis chipped in with a hit, run and two RBI; Lewis had a hit, run and RBI; Carfat added a hit and two RBI; Aubel and Grippen had one hit and one run apiece; and Crawford tacked on a run.
Owego (3-4) visits Seton Catholic Wednesday at 5 p.m.
