HS TRACK & FIELD: NEWARK VALLEY’S SWITZER WINS AT DOUG QUINNEY INVITE (2024-04-21)

SIDNEY — Newark Valley distance standout Harley Switzer captured the 3,000-meter run at the Doug Quinney Track & Field Invitational Saturday.

She posted a winning time of 11:52.46 to defeat runner-up Margaret Raffo of Cooperstown by nearly 19 ½ seconds. Switzer was also fifth in the 1500 with a time of 5:33.62.

Also in the girls meet, Brook Illsley placed third in the 3,000, clocking 12:38.13, while Anika Smith claimed the bronze in the pole vault, clearing seven feet even.

The Cardinals’ 4x400 relay placed fourth with a time of 4:59.47.

The boys team came away with four top-five finishes.

Elijah Williams was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.53.

Jackson Hoover took fourth in the 800, recording a time of 2:12.89.

Dan Truesdail placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 112-5.

The 4x800 relay was third, clocking 9:13.08.

Newark Valley will host Dryden and Watkins Glen in its first home meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
