SECTION IV GIRLS GOLF: SVEC TAKES 3RD IN MULTI-TEAM MATCH (2024-04-18)

HORSEHEADS — The Spencer-Van Etten girls golf team finished third in a multi-team Section IV girls golf match Thursday in which all five teams were separated by 15 strokes.

The Eagles shot a 214 on the par-37 Willowcreek Golf Course, besting hosts Horseheads’ 217 and Waverly’s 218. Corning posted the top score, a 203 with Lansing shooting 206.

Lauren Gillette again paced the SVEC effort, taking third in the 29-player field with a 46.

Corning’s Delaney Abel was the medalist with a 40 and Lansing’s Hailey Baughan carded a 45.

SVEC’s Annika Walle landed a top-10 finish as well, coming in ninth with a 52.

Horseheads’ Ava Fairbrother was fourth (47), Waverly’s Breanne Robinson took fifth (49), Corning’s Amanda Hall and Lansing’s Alessandra Monacelli tied for sixth at 50, Horseheads’ Oliva Hatch claimed eighth (51), and Waverly’s Addison Hunt and Lansing’s Anna Lombardi shared the 10th spot at 55.

Rounding out SVEC’s scoring were Lily Kunzman and Gwen Shaw, both coming in at 58.

The Eagles’ non-scoring golfers were Emma Veasey with a 67 and Maggie Jennison at 74.

SVEC is back in action Monday against Lansing at RaNic Golf Club in Ithaca at 4 p.m.
