BINGHAMTON — Chenango Valley broke a 1-1 deadlock in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 10-1 STAC softball victory over Owego Monday.
The River Hawks tied the score when Peyton Coolbaugh walked, moved to second on Alex Aubel’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Brooklyn Gaurnier’s two-out single to right field.
The Warriors took advantage of a double, three singles and two walks in their half of the inning to go up, 3-1.
Leading 4-1, CV chalked up five more runs in the fifth to build a 9-1 cushion.
The Warriors improved to 3-1 behind 13 hits and a trio of Owego errors.
The River Hawks were led at the plate by Miley Laubach, who went 2-for-3, and Guarnier, who contributed a hit and RBI. Aubel, Carsten Crawford, Maia Smith and Lexi Cheeseman recorded one hit apiece for the River Hawks with Crawford’s being a double.
Crawford and Joslyn Space threw three innings apiece, allowing two earned runs each.
Owego (2-3) visits Waverly (3-1) Wednesday.
