IAC BASEBALL: EDISON PULLS AWAY FROM SVEC (2023-04-15)

Tioga County Sports Report
VAN ETTEN — The Spencer-Van Etten/Candor baseball team attempted to rally from an early deficit, but Edison pulled away for a 16-4 six-inning win in IAC action Monday.

The Spartans’ Nico Cheplick smacked a leadoff home run to set the stage for a seven-run first inning which included doubles by Thomas Cheplick, Andy Slaven, Zach Piper and Nico Cheplick.

The Eagles would keep Edison scoreless for the next three innings while attempting to chip away from the lead.

Cameron Sinn singled in the third and Deveon Aman followed with a double, Jason Jantz walked and Wyatt Ross added a sacrifice fly. Sinn, Aman and Jantz scored to close the gap to 7-3.

The comeback attempt was short-lived as the Spartans scored four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

SVEC was only able to plate one more run in between following a base on balls to Aman and a sacrifice by Jantz.

Sinn led the Eagles at the plate, going 3-for-4, and Deveon Aman had a double and two runs. Logan Aman, Jacek Teribury, Jantz and Owen Huizinga racked on one single apiece.

SVEC (1-4) hosts Edison (3-2) again on Wednesday.
