IAC BOYS GOLF: CANDOR TOPS S-VE; PANTHERS’ FEDENKO EARNS MEDALIST HONOR (2024-04-12)

WAVERLY — The Candor boys golf team opened the season with a 203-226 victory over rival Spencer-Van Etten in IAC action at The Club at Shepard Hills Thursday.

Some wind, coupled with rain later in the match, didn’t affect the Coyotes’ top three golfers, who finished three strokes apart to lead the team to its 20th consecutive victory (33rd when including the streak during the merger with SVEC).

Medalist honors went to the Panthers’ Tyler Fedenko, who carded an 8-over-par 45 on the front nine layout. That was one stroke better than Candor’s Tyler Greeno, and three strokes ahead of the Coyotes’ Noah Banks and Kody Floyd.

Fedenko’s round included a two on the par-3 seventh hole while Banks scored a 4 on the par-5 ninth.

Newcomer Jak Smith closed out the Candor effort with a 52. Scoring for S-VE were Jayden Stone, who shot 56, Zack Hammond with a 62 and either Andrew Kinnetz or Michael Fanning at 63 (only one score counted.

Non-scoring competitors included Candor’s Brennan Zimmer (59) and Max Fey (61), and S-VE’s John Hastings (64).

Candor (2-0) visits Tioga (2-0) Tuesday and S-VE (0-2) hosts Odessa-Montour (0-2) Wednesday.
