IAC BASEBALL: MORAVIA PITCHING DOMINATES NEWARK VALLEY IN SEASON OPENER (2024-04-01)

Tioga County Sports Report
MORAVIA — Moravia’s Luke Landis, who tied the school single-game record for strikeouts during sectional play last May, fanned nine batters as he no-hit Newark Valley, 13-0, in five innings in IAC baseball action Monday.

Landis held the Cardinals in check until issuing back-to-back walks to Brandon Eynon and Josh Karp in the top of the fourth inning.

He would walk just one more batter, Chase Smolinsky, in the fifth.

Landis would aid his own effort with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, driving in three runs and scoring two more.

Dillon Palmer and Carson Andrews both went 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils. Palmer scored a trio of runs and drove in another while Andrews added two runs and an RBI.

Eli Landis contributed three runs on one hit, Jairen Francis and Thomas Palmer recorded one hit, run and RBI apiece, and Robert Balk tacked on a hit and an RBI.

Ryan Rhodes started on the hill for NV, giving up five runs, three earned, on two hits and two walks while striking out one.

Will Craparo took the mound for four innings, surrendering eight runs, only three earned, on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

NV hosts Union Springs Wednesday.
