IAC BOYS TENNIS: NEWARK VALLEY DROPS SEASON OPENER TO WATKINS GLEN (2024-03-27)

NEWARK VALLEY — Newark Valley played some competitive matches in its home opener Wednesday, but came out on the down side of a 5-0 decision in IAC tennis action against Watkins Glen.

The Cardinals took WG to three sets in two of the matches.

At second singles, the Lake Hawks’ Andre Wixson won the first set, but Michael Medina tied it up with a 6-2 victory. Wixson won the third set, 6-2.

First-year player Danny Pirger competed at third shingles and took the opening set over Enric Lin, 6-3, but Lin won the next two by 6-3 scores.

At first singles, Watkins’ Levi Murphy turned back a determined Michael Wandell, 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles matches, WG’s Max Ricca and Logan DeBolt defeated Rachel Parisot and Eric Hunt, 6-4, 6-0, at first doubles, while the Hawks' Ryan Baudendistle and Nolan Reynolds topped Hailey Engbith and Emma Smith, 6-0, 6-2.

Newark Valley is off until April 9 when it hosts Trumansburg.
