IAC SOFTBALL: NEWARK VALLEY MOVES TO IAC SOUTH SMALL SCHOOL (2024-03-24)

NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley softball team moves to the IAC South Small School ranks this season, which coach Val Fischer believes “will be way more competitive for us.”

The Cardinals return eight players from last year’s squad.

They include junior pitcher Rosie Wandell and senior pitcher Joslyn Wright, junior catcher Kayden Rockwell, junior first baseman Laura Ludwig, who was an IAC second-team all-star in 2023, junior infielder Hattie Hines, and outfielders Ruthanne Walburn and Abby Groover, both seniors, and junior Jenna Vosburgh.

A newcomer that could make an impact is 8th-grader Haven Aylesworth.

“Haven will be a utility player and put in any position the team may need her this year,” Fischer said.

NV opens the season April 1 at Moravia.
