ALL-TIOGA COUNTY GIRLS WRESTLING: OWEGO’S CRAFT STANDS ATOP GROWING SPORT (2024-03-23)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Owego’s RaeAnn Craft became the first three-time girls champion in Section IV history this season. That and several other impressive feats have earned her the honor of All-Tioga County girls “Wrestler of the Year.”

In addition to the three-peat, the sophomore also won her second consecutive STAC championship and made her second trip to the podium at the NYSPHSAA Girls Wrestling Invitational, placed fifth at 120 pounds, which boasted three returning champions (114, 120 126). She was also the runner-up at the Linda Knuutila Memorial Tournament, and posted a 21-5 record with 15 pins and four technical falls.

Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s Dallas Fanning has earned the honor of “Newcomer of the Year.” The freshman won IAC and Southern Tier Memorial titles at 107, and was the runner-up at the Friends of Section IV and U-E Tradesmen tournaments, as well as the Section IV ranking event and the Section IV championships.

Other major accomplishments in the growing sport came from:
Waverly senior Mackenzie LaForest, who won her second sectional title and was the runner-up at 235 at the state invitational. She just signed to continue her career at D’Youville University.

SVEC’s Tayah Beach was the most improved wrestler in the county, if not all of Section IV. The sophomore turned up the aggressiveness a notch or two and went on to post a 22-5 record with 20 pins, winning more matches than her previous two seasons combined. She won five tournaments, to include the IAC and Section IV, and also went 2-2 at the state invitational.

Tioga 8th-grader Kyah Nelson won her second Section IV championship and posted a 25-5 record. She won 24 bouts by pin.

NOTE: A coach of the year was not awarded as only one Tioga County program has a full roster.
