SYRACUSE — Candor’s Kaitlyn Floyd competed in the 2024 NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships at AMF Strike N’ Spare Lanes in Syracuse Saturday.

The junior placed 31st out of 66 competitors in the Girls Composite tournament. Although she wasn’t satisfied with the end results, she wasn’t totally disappointed.

“I wish I did a lot better, that's for sure,” she said. “I kind of didn't know what I was expecting coming in there, so I tried my best, but it didn’t go as I planned. It dried up really quickly, so I just tried to adjust the best I could and throw the best shots I could.

“I had okay games, but I just kind of wish they were better and more consistent.”

Floyd started the tournament with a 168, but bounced back with her high game of the day, a 200, then followed that with a 198 to finish the first session with a 566 series.

She rolled 191 to start the second set and finished with a 190, but struggled to a 162 in between, leaving her with a 543 series and a 6-game score of 1109. Her average for the day would be a 184.83.

Floyd enjoyed the experience and hopes it helps promote the sports back home.

“It's exciting. It's very exciting,” she said. “It kind of puts you at a high and, being from a very small town where people don't even know where we are and who we are,it does a lot for our community and I think it brings more bowlers in.”

Section IV placed fifth in the team standings.
