SECTION IV BOYS BOWLING: OWEGO CAPTURES RUNNER-UP HONOR IN CLASS B (2024-02-18)

Tioga County Sports Report
VESTAL — Four Owego keglers broke 600 and a fifth missed the mark by a single pin as the River Hawks placed second at the Section IV Class B Boys Bowling Championships at Midway Lanes.

Owego has qualified for this week’s sectionals as a team while Candor’s Kody Floyd and Newark Valley’s Brandon Eynon will advance as individuals.

CLASS B
Owego cranked out a 3126 series, trailing only the merged team of Unadilla Valley and Norwich, which posted a 3155 behind Dawson Robinson’s 783. One of nine bowlers to roll a 700-plus series, he put up the high score of the day.

The 29-point difference marked the closest battle of the tournament.

Will Waldron led the River Hawk charge. He opened with a 212, then nailed a 235 and added a 207 to register a 654 series.

Right on his heels was Evan O’Hara with a 652. His games were 190, 259 and 205. Connor Kotski shot a 617 which saw him post 205, 223 and 189. Grayden Stanton recorded a 604 series with scores of 202, 212 and 190. Devan Card started the day with a 225, then added a 181 and 193 to finish at 599.

CLASS C
Waverly won the class with a score of 3086, besting Sidney by 60 pins.

Tioga nipped Candor for the No. 9 spot, 2571-2569, and Newark Valley was 12th with a 2225.

Candor
Floyd started out with a 244, then added a 161 and 213 for a 618 series.

Aiden Jackson contributed a 205-534 and William Dizer tacked on a 201-508.

Tyler Dunham pitched in with 183-477 and Jason Tufarella had a 174-432.

Newark Valley
Eynon posted a 201 in between games of 184 and 193 to finish with a 578 series.

Lakoda Gorsline recorded a team-high 226 in his first game and ended the day with a 522 series.

John Stougher chipped in with a 151 (twice) and 438 series, Gavin Stockel had a 142-373, Dayle Gorsline had a 140 game and William Simons bowled in the final game.

Tioga
Nick Slater led the Tigers with a 267-660. Austin Mumbulo and Cameron Rought added high games of 203 and 202, respectively.

Waverly
Derek Johnson highlighted the Wolverines’ win with a 257-708.

Dom Wood and Carter Hayes had 608 and 600 series, respectively, while Trenton Sindoni had a 204 game and Tristan Campbell tacked on a 203.
