SECTION IV GIRLS BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY, OWEGO SEEDED SECOND FOR POSTSEASON TOURNAMENTS (2024-02-16)

TIOGA COUNTY — The Owego and Newark Valley girls basketball teams have been seeded second for the Class A and Class B playoffs, respectively.

The River Hawks (11-9) are seeded behind Johnson City (13-5), which is ranked 23rd in the state. They will host Maine-Endwell (4-15) in the semifinals Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.

The championship game will be played March 3 at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton at a time to be announced.

NV (19-1), despite its No. 1 state ranking, is seeded behind Chenango Forks (14-3). The Blue Devils are ranked seventh in the state.

The Cardinals host the winner of seventh-seeded Edison (11-9) and 10th-seeded Sidney (12-7) Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

The semifinals will be held Feb. 27 and the championship game will be played at the Arena March 3 at a time to be announced.

Two other Tioga County teams, Candor and Waverly, have qualified for the playoffs.

The Coyotes (8-9) are seeded 11th in Class C and will travel to No. 11 Delhi Tuesday for a 6 p.m. tilt. The winner visits No. 3 Moravia, ranked ninth in the state, in the quarterfinals (16-3).

Fifth-seeded Waverly (9-9) travels to No. 4 seed Chenango Valley (14-5), ranked 23rd in the state on Feb. 23 for a Class B quarterfinal match-up.
