CORNING — The Owego girls basketball team fell behind early and was unable to make up ground in a 58-39 loss to Class AAA Corning Tuesday night.
The Hawks outscored their visitors 17-10 in the first quarter, then held the River Hawks to seven points in each of the next two periods to build a 50-24 cushion heading into the final stanza.
Madison McEvoy led Owego (11-9) with 13 points, which included a trio of 3-pointers. Taylor Dalton and Cassie Doane accounted for nine points apiece, Lexi Herceg contributed six and Ava Brown tacked on two points.
Corning (8-15) was paced by Char Starns with 20 and Jayda McFall with 15.
