BINGHAMTON — Newark Valley’s Cadin Creeley and Titus Callahan captured the bronze medal at the Section IV Wrestling Championships at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena Saturday evening, qualifying the duo for the state championships.

Cadin Creeley scored a 9-4 decision over Brittan Keller of Marathon in the 152-pound quarterfinals before running into defending state champion Caden Bellis of Tioga in the semifinals and suffering a setback via fall in 3:36.

He regrouped to stick Anthony Weaver of Windsor in 2:44, then defeated Travis Houck from Walton-Delhi, 5-1, in the third-place match.

Callahan, who bumped up to 190 despite weighing just a little over 162, decked Dawsyn Cole of Marathon in 3:23. That brought a semi showdown with Windsor standout, Mason McCombs. Callahan refused to let himself get pinned, but did drop a 16-0 technical fall. He rallied to win his next two bouts by major decision, 8-0 over Edison’s Caden Southard and 9-1 in a rematch with Cole.

The Cardinals nearly sent a third grappler to states, but Trevor Middendorf couldn’t pull off a repeat of the surprising upset he achieved earlier in the tournament.

He tangled with Tioga’s Logan Bellis, a returning state runner-up, in the quarterfinals and pulled off a shocking 5-3 overtime victory. The two met again in the third place bout with Bellis prevailing, 6-0. Middendorf scored a 10-0 major over Tristan Farley from Susquehanna Valley in his first match, but fell to Schuyler standout Lucas Hoffman in the semis, 9-4, and also edged Justin Somers of Walton-Del, 6-0.

The Cardinals’ Seth Northrop (215) went 2-2 on the day. He dominated Nolan Boyles from Unatego/Unadilla Valley/Franklin, 11-4, but suffered a 12-1 loss to Dominick Weaver of Windsor in the quarters. He came back in the consolation bracket to blank Marathon’s Andrew Infante-Franks, 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 overtime heartbreaker to Norwich’s Braden Reid.

Logan Woodin (145) and Austin DeBolt (285) both went 1-2.

Woodin lost to Schuyler’s Jaymes Forker by pin in 2:36, then bested Mason Masi with a pin in 4:54. His season ended with a pin in 2:02 against Alan Little from Oneonta.

DeBolt lost by fall to Ryan Stoss from Deposit/Hancock in 1:42 in their 285-pound opener, but responded with a pin over Aidan Summers of Schuyler in 4:49. He lost to Joe Maraski of Maine-Endwell by pin in 3:19.

Also competing for NV was Andrew Lelik at 102. He lost to Camryn Rosenbarker of Chenango Valley by pin in 5:02, but nearly pinned the CV grappler earlier in the match. He also fell to Dylan Webb of Sidney by fall in 52 seconds.
