STAC MODIFIED BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO (BLUE) SPLITS WITH CV, SV (2024-02-09)

OWEGO — Owego (Blue) split a pair of games in STAC modified boys basketball action recently, defeating Chenango Valley (Red), 45-44, on Jan. 22, but dropping an overtime heartbreaker to Susquehanna Valley (Blue), 41-33, on Jan. 27.

OWEGO 45, CV 38
The River Hawks trailed 31-27 heading into the fourth quarter, but received seven points apiece from Nolan Card and Lucas Mott while holding the Sabersto seven.

It was a tight battle through three quarters with Sus Valley leading 19-18.

Card led all scorers with 17 points, Canfield contributed 11 and Mott added 10. Wyatt Prentiss chipped in with four, Camden Thole had two and Lincoln Miller added one.

Clark paced the Warriors with 15 points and C. Smith tacked on 13.

SV 41, OWEGO 33 OT
The Sabers took control in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime, which they dominated 10-2.

Sus Valley went 6-for-6 at the free throw line as they outscored Owego, 8-6, in the fourth. They then went 6-for-8 at the line in the extra session and Armstrong knocked down a pair of baskets.

The River Hawks led 8-7 after one period of play, but SV went ahead at halftime, 17-11.

Owego put together a 14-6 surge in the third quarter to go in front, 25-23, as Card pumped out 10 points.

The foul line played heavily in Sus Valley’s favor as the Sabers went 16-for-20 at the stripe while Owego was only 3-for-11.

Card led all scorers with 23 points, Ethan Bright and Mott added four apiece, and Prentiss tacked on two.

Armstrong scored 18 for Sus Valley with Clarke getting 11 more.
