ON TAP TODAY: BASKETBALL OWNS THE DAY (2024-02-09)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — There are just four events on the schedule, all taking place on the basketball court. Three of those games involve boys teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Candor (16-2) at Towanda (5-15), 6 p.m.: The Coyotes, ranked eighth in the state in Class C, take their eight-game winning streak south of the border to visit the Black Knight and close out the regular season. Towanda has struggled this season but Candor should still expect a challenge from its Pennsylvania-based opponent.

Newark Valley (7-10) at Trumansburg (13-4), 7:15 p.m.: The Cardinals must win one of their final three games to make the Section IV Class B playoffs. The Blue Raiders are ranked 13th in the state in Class B.

Seton Catholic (15-2) at Owego (13-4), 7:15 p.m.: The STAC Central title is at hand and the Saints can take it outright with a win. A River Hawk victory creates a three-way tie including Waverly. If the Wolverines also win tonight. Seton has won 11 consecutive games and is ranked 14th among the state’s Class A teams. Owego is ranked 23rd in Class A.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Trumansburg (7-6, 10-6) at Newark Valley (13-0, 17-1), 7:15 p.m.: The Cardinals can wrap up an undefeated season in IAC action with a win. T-burg needs a victory to clinch the IAC North Large School title. A loss and a Whitney Point win over Elmira Notre Dame creates a playoff.
