TIOGA COUNTY — Newark Valley’s Cha Gardner and Owego’s Evan O’Hara have been selected the
Tioga County Sports Report “Athletes of the Week” for Jan. 29-Feb. 3.
Female Athlete of the Week: Cha Gardner, Newark Valley
The senior forward became the all-time leading scorer in school history, surpassing the boys leader Tuesday and girls and all-time leader Denise Pitcher on Friday. She finished the week with 1,280 points; the previous record was 1,269.
Gardner had 27 points in a 51-15 win over Edison Tuesday and 15 in a 39-37 victory against Class AAA Elmira Wednesday. She tacked on 15 more when the Cardinals downed Elmira Notre Dame, 51-25, on Friday.
She recorded a triple-double against Elmira and a double-double against Notre Dame. She ended the week with 57 points, 48 boards, 23 blocks, 15 assists and 10 blocks.

Male Athlete of the Week: Evan O’Hara, Owego
In a week which saw five Owego bowlers and another from Candor carry game averages of 208 or better, the freshman posted a six-game average of 230.5.
On Monday, O’Hara shot a 194 in his opening game, then followed up with 248 and 257 for a 699 series in a 5-0 victory over Chenango Valley.
On Friday, he rolled 232, 227 and 225 for a 684 series in a 5-0 win against second-place Waverly in which the River Hawks clinched their third consecutive STAC Central championship.
