IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE STRUGGLES TO MAKE EARLY LEAD HOLD UP (2024-02-07)

SPENCER — Spencer-Van Etten snagged a 16-12 lead against Elmira Notre Dame Wednesday, but stumbled in the second quarter in a 64-47 IAC South crossover loss Wednesday.

The Crusaders, who clinched the IAC South Large School title the night before, went on a 21-2 blitz in Q2 to take a 33-18 advantage into the break.

S-VE picked up seven points from Angelo Lo Presti and six from Chris Merrick in the opening stanza, but managed just one LO Presti field goal in the second.

Ethan Ashby, who knocked down a 3-pointer in the first period, tacked on two more in the third quarter while Lo Presti and Merrick added four and three, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Crusaders extended their lead to 50-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Lo Presti added eight more points in the final frame and Alijiah Davis added four.

ND’s Jeremiah Parker led allscorers with 27 points, including two three-balls and a 7-for-11 performance at the free throw line.

The Panthers received 21 points from Lo Presti, 11 by Ashby, seven from Merrick, six by Davis and two from Bower.

S-VE (0-15) closes out the season Tuesday at Watkins Glen.
