IAC BOWLING: NEWARK VALLEY FINDING ITS LATE-SEASON GROOVE (2024-02-07)

NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley bowling teams seem to be finding a late-season groove. With the IAC championships coming up Saturday, the Cardinals have gone a combined 7-0-1 since the calendar flipped over to February.
On Tuesday, the boys defeated Groton, 4-0, while the girls earned a 2-2 split. Those efforts follow a pair of 4-0 sweeps of Odessa-Montour last Friday.
BOYS
NV 4, GROTON 0
The Cardinals won by scores of 789-758, 829-690 and 798-735, and took the total pinfall, 2416-2183.
Brandon Eynon led the charge with a 222-567. James Wales added a 192-479, LaKoda Gorsline had a 170-462, Dayle Gorlsine rolled a 157-462, John Sloughter shot a 160-409 and Mason Peck tacked on a 134-389.
Elijah Brehm led the Red Hawks with 179-529.
NV 4, O-M 0
Newark Valley won with scores of 654-622, 728-582 and 784-635, and grabbed the total pinfall, 2166- 1839.
Eynon scored a 189-531, Wales posted a 204-463, Peck had a 181-391, Sloughter pitched in with a 146-386, LaKoda Gorsline had a 132-347, Dayle Gorsline contributed a 126-338.
Brayden Seamon led the Grizzlies with a 211-530.
GIRLS
NV 2, GROTON 2
The Cardinals won the opening game, 838-689, but dropped the next two, 755-734 and 731-720. Fortunately for NV, the game two and three scores were close enough that the Cardinals prevailed in total pinfall, 2292-2175.
Rachel Hartman rolled a 199-553, Madi Davis had a 172-473, Lyla Dufresne came in with a 151-429, Alexandra Rosengrant added a 180-426, Emily Bird had a 137-372 and Abigail Dufresne tacked on a 143-361.
Mady Pitts led Groton with a 194-520.
NV 4, O-M 0
Newark Valley won by scores of 692-481, 660-496 and 559-513 and took the total pinfall, 1911-1490.
Dufresne led NV with a 166-431, Hartman had a 163-404, Davis added a 134-360, Alyssa Brown had a 122-358, Rosengrant chipped in with a 134-334 and Bird added a 122-332.
Odessa Aurrance paced O-M with a 115-318.
The IAC tournament will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Valley Bowling Center in Waverly.
