IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE DROPS 52-41 DECISION TO TIOGA (2023-02-07)

SPENCER — The Spencer-Van Etten boys basketball team fell behind by 17 in the first half, but did manage to keep the game closer after the break in a 52-41 IAC South Small School loss to rival Tioga Tuesday evening.

Shea Bailey scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, and Gavin Fisher added four points as the Tigers grabbed a 15-7 advantage in the first period. Caden McFall had four for S-VE.

Bailey added another nine points in Q2 on a pair of 3-pointers, and three free throws and Brady Landmesser tacked on four points to give Tioga a 28-11 lead at the break. Angela Lo Presti and Alijiah Davis canned one basket apiece for the Panthers.

Tensions escalated in the third period, resulting in four player rejections and a police escort from the gym for two spectators.

Fisher drained a pair of threes, Karson Sindoni added five points, and Bailey added four more, including his fourth trey of the contest, as Tioga built a 47-25. The Panthers received a pair of treys from Ethan Ashby and two from Chris Merrick.

S-VE trimmed the margin down in the final stanza behind a 16-5 surge.

Lo Presti paced S-VE with 12 points and Ashby contributed 11 more. Merrick finished with nine, Davis had five and McFall tacked on four.

The Panthers had six players suited up while Tioga was without leading scorer Evan Sickler.

Tioga improved to 12-6. Bailey led all scorers with 20 points, Fisher had 13 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, Sindoni had seven and Landmesser added six.

S-VE (0-14) hosts Elmira Notre Dame tonight.
