STAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO SUFFERS TWO TOUGH SETBACKS (2024-02-06)

NORWICH/JOHNSON CITY — The Owego JV girls basketball team suffered a pair of tough setbacks in the past week, falling to Norwich in overtime, 45-40, last Tuesday and 42-28 to Johnson City Monday.

NORWICH 45, OWEGO 40 (OT)
The River Hawks rode a pair of 9-point quarters to an 18-16 halftime advantage, but the Purple Tornado went ahead, 27-26, after three periods of play.

The score was knotted at 40 at the end of regulation.

Keely Wicklund scored four overtime points for Owego before fouling out and Jenna McEvoy fouled out as well.

McEvoy had a big night on the scoreboard with 23 points. Wicklund finished with six, Jana Nikulich added four, Jaelyn Chrysler added three, and Jewel Belokur and Kaitlyn Dodge tacked on two apiece.

Brooklyn Burke and Camryn Searfoss shared scoring honors for Norwich with 15 points each. Burke had three 3-pointers on the night and scored seven points in OT.

JC 42, OWEGO 28
The River Hawks played tough for a half, trailing just 16-14 at the break.

They were still in it after three periods, despite slipping behind, 32-26.

Unfortunately for Owego, the points didn’t come easy in the final frame as JC went on a 10-2 run.

The Hawks played without McEvoy, their leading scorer. Chrysler led the team with 10 points, Dodge added eight and Wicklund pitched in with six. Belokur and Evelyn Howe scored two apiece.

Sy-nesa Crampton led the Wildcats with a 20-point effort and Jay’dah Sanders added 14.
