STAC BOYS SWIMMING & DIVING: OWEGO DOMINATES GREENE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE (2024-02-06)

OWEGO — Owego’s Magavin Allen, Jaxson Calice and Eric Schrader picked up four victories apiece as the River Hawks closed out the regular season with a 104-33 win over Greene in STAC boys swimming and diving action Monday.

Javan Belokur and Vincent Kneller won two events each while Joseph Gaurnier, Christian Monell, Conner Riegel and Dominic Scherrer contributed one victory apiece.

Allen’s individual victories came in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.55 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.71.

Calice captured the 50 and 100 freestyle races with times of 23.69 and 53.87 seconds, respectively.

Schrader claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:35.48 and the 500 free, clocking 5:53.39.

Belokur won the 200 free (2:14.4) and Kneller was victorious in the 100 backstroke (1:18.66).

Allen, Kneller, Schrader and Calice swam to the top spot in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:04.21, and Calice, Joe Gaurnier, Schrader and Allen won the 200 free relay in 1:49.73. Monell, Riegel, Scherrer and Belokur capped off the meet with the win in the 400 free relay in 4:46.6.

Placing second for the River Hawks were Riegel in the 200 free (2:46.54), Stephen Gilmore in the 100 fly (1:35.35) and Belokur in the 500 free (5:59.46), and the 200 free relay of Kneller, Monell, Dominic Scherrer and Gilmore (2:01.46).

Coming in third were Gaurnier in the 50 free (:28.55) and 100 free (1:03.96), Monell in the 200 free (2:48.35), and the 200 medley relay of Gaurnier, Riegel, Gilmore and Monell (2:26.61).

Also scoring for Owego were Everett Tirinato Snow in the 100 breast (4th, 1:33.19), the 200 free relay of Tirinato Snow, Stefano Scherrer, Riegel and Belokur (4th, 2:10.39), and Dominic Scherrer in the 50 free (5th, :31.35).

Allen won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.59 and was nearly nine seconds ahead of the second-place competitor.

Schrader clocked 5:41.46 to win the 500 freestyle, touching 97/100ths of second ahead of the Yellowjackets’ Bastian Dudley in a close finish.

Allen was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley (2:16.73). Also placing second were Calice in the 50 free (:24.42) and 100 free (:53.28); Kneller in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.1), the 200 medley relay of Allen, Kneller, Schrader and Calice (2:02.73) and the 200 free relay of Calice, Gaurnier, Schrader and Allen (1:48.9).

Taking third for the River Hawks were Schrader in the 200 free (2:10.59), Gilmore in 100 butterfly (1:33.44), Belokur in the 500 free (5:51.98), Riegel in the 100 breast, the 200 free relay of Tirinato Snow, Stefano Scherrer, Ian Ianniello and Belokur (3:59.85), and the 400 free relay of Christian Monell, Riegel, Dominic Scherrer and Belokur (4:45.64).

Other swimmers scoring points for Owego were Belokur in the 200 free (4th, 2:11.23), Gaurnier in the 100 free (4th, 1:03.86) and the 50 free (5th, :29.16), Tirinato Snow in the 100 breast (5th, 1:31.55).

The River Hawks will compete in the Section IV class meet Feb. 14.
