STAC BOWLING: OWEGO BOYS SECOND, O’HARA THIRD AT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2024-02-05)

VESTAL — Owego captured runner-up honors and Evan O’Hara placed third individually at the STAC Boys Bowling Championships at Midway Lanes Monday.

The Central division champion River Hawks rolled a 3022 series, trailing only West champ Corning, which dominated the event with a 3382 series.

The Hawks posted games of 1153, 1130 and 1099. Owego registered 1042, 964 and 1016. Metro champ Maine-Endwell was third with a 2955 series and a high game of 1028. East champ Susquehanna Valley was fourth with an 838-2490.

O’Hara broke 200 in every game on the way to a 746 series. He started the tournament with a 276, and followed it up with a 226 and a 244.

Devan Card and Connor Kotski finished in the top 10 as well, each placing ninth with a 597 series. Card had a 265, followed by 160 and 172. Kotski started with a 180 then improved with a 205 and 212.

Will Waldron came in 11th with a 564 behind games of 171, 183 and 210, and Grayden Stanton was 14th. His games of 150, 190 and 178 added up to a 518 series.

Corning took four of the top five spots with Peyton Nelson claiming first place. He shot 267, 274 and 258 for a 799 series.

The JV boys were fourth with a 2378 series, They had games of 799, 798 and 781. Elmira was first with a 3101, followed by Union-Endicott at 2678 and Waverly with 2490. Sus Valley was fifth at 2084.

Chase Romeo led the River Hawks, placing 12th. He scored a 204-540. Branden Ward was 14th with a 199-497 and Dominick Curley was 16th with a 199-493. Damien Allen placed 18th with a 170-475. Kaleb Clark shot a 150 in his only game and Nate Dwyer rolled two games with a high of 127.

The Owego varsity girls competed in the end-of-season tournament and placed seventh with a 763-2129.

Elaina Anschutz paced the River Hawks with a 202-456 and Elizabeth Reigle added a 176-454. Haley Stephens had a 154-441, Izzy Coveney shot a 138-401 and Izzy Taylor tacked on a 143-377.

The Section IV class tournament will be held Feb. 16-17 at Midway Lanes and the state qualifier will take place Feb. 23-24 at Valley Bowling Center in Waverly.
