TIOGA CENTER — Owego's Bobby Struble recorded three falls, two by pin, to dominate the 170-pound weight class at the Section IV Division II Qualifier A wrestling tournament Saturday.

Struble decked Kade Bailey of Susquehanna Valley in 1:39 in the quarterfinals and dispatched Greg Golden from Edison in 3:03 in the championship bout. In between, he posted a 17-1 technical fall over Devon Rowe of BGAH.

The top seed and top-ranked 170-pounder in Division II, Struble boosted his season record to 24-8.

The River Hawks’ Collin Monell bumped up to 138 and captured the bronze while Dylan Brace placed fifth at 124.

Monell won by fall over Mark Moelder of Susquehanna Valley in 5:45 before falling by pin to Tioga standout Gianni Silvestri in 1:20. In the third-place match, he scored a 6-3 decision over Regan Roach of Norwich. Monel is now 29-9 on the season.

Brace started his tournament out quick with a 20-second pin against Michael Wandell of Newark Valley. In the quarterfinals, Landyn Shaffer of Deposit/Hancock won by a 12-3 major decision over Brace.

Brace rebounded to pin Tioga’s Conner Streeter in 2:47 and Moravia’s Thomas Harriger in 2:38 to reach the 5th-place match where he registered a 10-1 major decision over Travis White of Chenango Valley.

Jaydin Brainard took sixth place at 215. He lost by fall to Braden Reid of Norwich and by tech fall to Andrew Infante-Franks from Marathon.

John Swackhammer finished with a 1-3 record at 152, scoring one fall, while Vinny Mauriello was 1-2 at 160 with a decision. Jonathan Gilliland was 0-2 at 138 and Trevor Monell went 0-2 at 190.

The top five in each weight class advance to Saturday’s sectional championships.
