IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR TOPS UNION SPRINGS IN CLASH OF STATE-RANKED TEAMS (2024-01-26)

CANDOR — Jakobe Foster and Jadon Heidl recorded double-doubles to lead Candor to a 53-46 IAC Small School boys basketball victory over Union Springs in a clash of state-ranked teams Wednesday.
Foster pumped out a game-high 23 points, Heidl added another dozen markers, and the duo pulled down 10 rebounds apiece.
The Coyotes grabbed a 19-11 first-quarter advantage on the strength of 13 Foster points.
The Wolves trimmed the lead to 31-26 at the half, but were held to six points in the third period as Candor extended its advantage to 41-32.
The Coyotes went 6-for-8 at the free throw line in the final frame while Carson and Jadon Heidl combined for three field goals to keep Springs from mounting a comeback.
Foster also had four steals, three assists and a pair of 3-pointers while Jadon Heidl added two assists, one steal and two treys. Caron Heil contributed seven points and seven boards; and Donald Makie chipped in with six points, a trey and an assist.
Jacek Teribury had a three-ball, two assists and a rebound; Ryan Huizinga had three points and two rebounds; Jason Jantz added an assist and a rebound; and Tra Payne grabbed one board.
Candor, ranked 12th in Class C, improved to 12-2 while Union Springs, ranked 15th, slipped to 10-4.
The Coyotes put their four-game win streak on the line against Bainbridge-Guilford (9-4) at home Saturday night.
