Tioga County Sports Report
SYRACUSE — Bishop Ludden pumped out 20-point bookend quarters in en route to a 65-51 victory over Owego in the championship game of the Rosemary Corcoran Bishop Ludden Holiday Classic Thursday.
Despite trailing, 20-9, after the first eight minutes, the River Hawks trimmed the lead to 45-40 heading into the final period of play.
The Class AAA Gaelic Knights, with a roster which includes five players who stand between 6-foot-3 and 6-8 received five 3-pointers from 6-5 guard Joe Dunham and a career-high 20 points from 5-11 guard Jahzir Greene.
Ben Rollison scored 16 points to pace the Owego effort and Riley Loomis added 13.
“We attacked their zone (anchored by 6-7, 6-6 and 6-5) really well … just needed a few more threes to fall,” Owego coach Chris Evans said. “We actually played better than the previous night. Loomis and Rollison both made the all-star team.
“We will regroup tomorrow night at my house — Mrs Evans is cooking up a Mexican fiesta — and watch some film and continue to work toward improvement. This is a hard-working, coachable, and fun group!”
Owego (6-3) hosts Chenango Valley Jan. 9.
