Angie McKane capped a brilliant career with two more state titles at the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships. She is

Girls Athlete of the Fall.”
McKane
won a pair of state and federation titles in the 50-yard freestyle and
the 100-yard butterfly, and was named the “Outstanding Athlete” of the
state meet. She also won the “Academic Swimmer of the Year” award at the
meet.
McKane broke multiple sectional records, and holds the
Corning school record in every swimming event except the 500-yard
freestyle.
For her career, she finished with five state titles
and three federation titles. She will be swimming for Division I Army in
the fall.

Mira Kittle, sophomore, Waverly swimming:
Kittle started the season by breaking her own record in the 50-yard
freestyle with a time of 24.45 seconds. In her penultimate swim of the
season, the 50 free preliminaries at the State meet, she finished with
the second-fastest time, lowering her school record to 23.54 seconds.
Kittle
also lowered her own school records in the 100-yard freestyle, and the
100-yard backstroke, and swam on the record-setting 200-yard medley, and
200-yard freestyle relays. She also broke several pool records
throughout Section IV. She swam in three events at States this season,
and brought home a 9th-place medal in the 50-yard freestyle.
Brooke Terwilliger, senior, Corning diving: Terwilliger was a state runner-up in diving competition at the New York State Championships.
She
set the Section IV 11-dive record this year, and won the sectional
championship in diving, and set the pool record at Elmira during
sectional diving championships.
Terwilliger will be diving at Division I Toledo in the fall.
Sarah Lawson, senior Corning cross country:
Lawson earned her third straight state medal and third straight
sectional title this year. She won the STAC title, sectional title and a
state medal.
Lawson led Corning to a team title at sectionals and a berth at States.
Kaelyn Katchuk, junior, Owego: Katchuk won her fourth consecutive Section IV, Class B diving championship and placed sixth at the state meet.
Jaelyn Chrysler, sophomore, Owego cross country:
Chrysler won a STAC Central championship, a Section IV, Class B title,
and ran to an 8th-place at New York State, Class B state championships.
Alexis McRoberts, sophomore, Troy soccer / Canton football:
McRoberts powered the Troy girls soccer team to another league title,
with her strong defense and powerful leg, which was feared by everybody
during free kicks. She had four goals and five assists on the season.
McRoberts
also used that leg to help the Canton football team as a kicker, going
32-for-40 on extra points and hitting a crucial 27-yard field goal in
their playoff game against South Williamsport.
Olivia Haley, senior, Wyalusing soccer / football:
Haley’s 37 goals and 10 assists led the Ram soccer team to its best
season in program history. She also helped the football team turn things
around as its kicker, making she hit 16 of 18 extra points.
Gracelyn Laudermilch, junior, Northeast Bradford cross country: Laudermilch repeated as NTL “Runner of the Year,” and scored her first District 4 title and state cross-country medal to boot.
Anna Dunn, junior, Towanda soccer:
Dunn had a season for the ages, netting 45 goals to carry the Knights
back to the postseason for the first time in three years.
Erin McDonald, senior Owego soccer:
McDonald, selected Tioga County’s top player for a third consecutive
year, scored a program-record 34 goals this season. She also finished
her high school career with a program record 93 goals, despite missing
several games in 2022 due to injury. McDonald, a team captain, recorded
hat tricks in seven. She was third-team all-state.
Piper Hooey, senior, Elmira volleyball:
Hooey
led the Express to their first Section IV championship. She had 130
kills, averaging nine kills per match. She had five matches
with 10-plus points and two matches with at least six aces. Hooey had 13
kills in the sectional final and 13 points, two aces and seven kills in
the regional final.
The Lady Mounties won their seventh straight NTL Large School title by
going undefeated in the league for the seventh straight year, led by
Lehman’s 183 kills (482 career), 169 digs (633 career), 121 points (587
career), 27 aces (126 career), four blocks and 10 assists.
Maggie Hamed, Owego volleyball:
Hamed connected for 169 kills, 120 digs and 33 aces. She was named
Class A fourth-team all-state, a STAC Central/East all-star,and
All-Tioga County co-Player of the Year.
Phoebe Swartz, Candor volleyball:
Swartz recorded 510 assists, 242 service points, including 94 aces. She
was named to the NYSPHSAA Class D all-tournament team and was a Class D
first-team all-state pick. She was also the IAC Small School co-MVP,
All-Tioga County Co-Player of the Year.
