HS WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY REPEATS AS CODY DUALS CHAMPS (2023-12-23)

BINGHAMTON — The Newark Valley wrestling team successfully defended its title as the Mark Cody Duals team champion, going 4-0 Friday.
The Cardinals defeated host Binghamton/Seton Catholic, 67-6; Elmira, 58-12; Liverpool from Section III, 46-24; and IAC foe Whitney Point, 68-6.
NV’s Trevor Middendorf, Cadin Creeley, Gabe Merrill, Logan Rhodes and Austin DeBolt all went 4-0 while Nate Harahus won his only bout.
DeBolt, the Cardinals’ 285-pounder, recorded four falls. Creeley (152) improved to 16-1 overall with three pins and a forfeit, and Merrill (160) contributed three pins and a forfeit also. Trevor Middendorf (116/124) upped his season mark to 15-1 with a trio of falls and a major decision, and Rhodes added two pins, a forfeit and a technical fall.
Andrew Lelik, Leland Houston, Travis Middendorf, Marcos Escalante, Logan Woodin, Titus Callahan and Seth Northrop all went 3-1.
Northrop’s loss was a 5-4 decision to Elmira’s Zahyke Jenkins, ranked No. 2 in Section IV Division I.
NV (7-0) is off until the Stan Elinsky Memorial Tournament on Jan. 6.
