HS GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO DUO DOUBLE-DOUBLES IN WIN OVER ND (2023-12-05)

SOUTHPORT — Owego’s Cassie Doane and Madison McEvoy recorded double-doubles to offset the absence of four players and lead the River Hawks to a 55-30 victory over Elmira Notre Dame in non-league basketball action Tuesday.

Doane, a senior, put up 15 points and pulled down 14 rebounds while McEvoy, a junior, pumped out 17 points and grabbed 11 steals.

McEvoy hit for a trio of 3-pointers and also had four assists, one block and one board while Doane added one trey, three steals and two blocks as Owego improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Hawks doubled up ND, 16-8, in the first quarter with McEvoy scoring seven points and Doane tacking on four.

The pair matched those numbers in Q2 as Owego stretched its lead to 31-14 at the break.

Senior Ava Brown scored six points in the third quarter, Doane added another four, McEvoy drained her third three-ball of the evening and senior Taylor Dalton had three points as the Hawks extended their advantage to 48-21 heading into the final frame.

Brown contributed nine points, three assists, two steals, 10 rebounds and one block. Dalton chipped in with nine 9 points, an assist, five steals and five boards. Lexi Herceg added five points, three steals, five rebounds and a block; and Stella Palladino added two assists, two steals and four rebounds.

Missing from the lineup were Olivia Dodge, who is out with an injury, and Ebba Lindhout, Ashlyn Dalton and Logan Georgia, all of whom were ill.

The Crusaders were paced by Mallory Sheehan with 18 points.

Owego hosts Chenango Forks Saturday at 1:45 p.m.
