NEWARK VALLEY — John Johnston captured the 190-pound championship at the 60th annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament over the weekend, leading SVEC to a fourth-place showing.

Johnston went 4-0 on the weekend, defeating Johnson City’s Kenyon Davidson, 9-3, in the championship bout. He recorded a trio of falls as well, including pins in 19 and 45 seconds.

Rodney Vaow (124) and Shane Neal (145) brought home the bronze.

Vaow went 4-1 with two pins, one coming in 18 seconds. He defeated teammate Caden Ruben, 8-4, in the third-place match. Ruben was 2-2 with a pair of quick pins to his credit (18 and 36 seconds).

Neal was also 4-1 with two falls. He battled past Vestal’s Donny Winslow, 3-1, in the finals.

Kamren Westbrook took fifth at 131, going 4-2 with a trio of falls, one coming in 55 seconds. That was against Chenango Valley’s Travis White in the finals.

Brennan Zimmer went 2-2 at 116 with two pins and William Horyczun (152) was 2-2 with one fall.

Donavan Vanderpoel (215) was 1-2 with a 71-second pin and Kaden Jameson (145) went 1-2.

Also competing for the Eagles were Sean Horyczun (131), Chris Miller (138), Aaron Shoemaker (138), Landon Lawrence (152), Neo Hul (160), Cooper Zufal (160) and Zane Showerman (170)

Carthage won the 17-team event with 210.5 points. Shenendehowa had 202, Queensbury scored 151.5 and SVEC followed with 122.

SVEC is back on the mat Tuesday at Edison for an IAC dual meet.
