ONEONTA — Newark Valley got a quick jump on Windsor and went on to register a 39-27 victory in the consolation game of the Anthony Drago Tip-off Tournament Saturday.

The Cardinals rode the scoring of five different players to a 13-3 advantage after one quarter of play, but the Black Knights would trim the difference down to 27-21 heading into the final period.

Cha Gardner, held to six points through the first three quarters, took over the game in the final frame, pumping out all 12 of NV’s points.

Gardner put together a well-rounded effort with 18 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, three steals and two assists.

Kamryn Short contributed four points, five assists, four boards, four blocks and two steals; and Liv Short added four points, six boards and one block. Adriana Rich had five points and four boards; Aubrey Kwiatkowski pitched in with four points and four assists; Kim Beebe scored three points and Anika Smith grabbed five steals to go with two assists and one point.

NV (1-1) hosts Dryden Friday.
