OWEGO — The Owego girls rode a 19-5 second-quarter surge to a 58-34 first round romp over Ithaca at the 3rd annual Charlie Sibley Memorial Basketball Tournament Friday night.

With the scoreboard in their favor at the end of the first period, 18-15, the River Hawks spread the scoring out among six players in Q2 to build a 37-20 halftime cushion.

Ava Brown scored six points and Madison McEvoy put up five more. Cassie Doane, Ashlyn Dalton, Lexi Herceg and Stella Palladino accounted for two points apiece.

McEvoy notched 11 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter while Taylor Dalton had five and Palladino two.

Owego extended the lead to 47-28 through three periods of play as McEvoy scored three, Brown, Herceg and Palladino tacked on two apiece and Doane hit a free throw.

The Hawks outscored Ithaca, 11-6 down the stretch with McEvoy putting up seven points and Doane added the other four.

McEvoy knocked down five 3-pointers on the evening.

Brown finished with eight points, Doane had seven, Palladino chipped in with six, Taylor Dalton added five, Herceg scored four and Ashlyn Dalton pitched in with two.

Samantha O’Connor canned four threes to lead the Little Red with 12 points. Asyra Baker added 10 more.

Owego faces Maine-Endwell in the title game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
