HS JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO DOWNS ITHACA IN SIBLEY OPENER (2023-12-01)

OWEGO — Jenna McEvoy carried the hot hand on the court Friday as the Owego JV girls defeated Ithaca, 45-38, in the first round of the 3rd annual Charlie Sibley Memorial Basketball Tournament.

McEvoy pumped out 34 points, draining four 3-pointers and going 9-for-11 at the free throw line. She scored 10 points in each of the first, second and fourth quarters.

The River Hawks outscored the Little Red, 10-2, in the first period, then increased their lead to 24-14 at the break and 34-22 heading into the final stanza.

Jaelyn Chrysler contributed seven points to the Owego win, Eveelyn Howe added three and Katelyn Dodge tacked on one.

Sereanda Baker led Ithaca with 12 points and Janelle Lucena had 11.

The Coyotes face the winner of Elmira and Maine-Endwell for the championship at 6 p.m. Saturday.
