HS WRESTLING: SVEC’S JOHNSTON SEEDED SECOND FOR CLYDE COLE (2023-12-01)

OXFORD — Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s John Johnston is seeded second at 190 pounds for Saturday’s 60th Annual Clyde Cole Wrestling Tournament.

Johnston, who placed sixth in Section IV Division II last season at 172 and posted a 27-15 record, is competing at 190.

The junior is one of 27 wrestlers on the Eagles’ roster, according tocnywrestling.com. SVEC is relatively young this season with three seniors and three juniors.

Highlighting the top entries from Section IV is two-time defending NYSPHSAA Division I champion Darren Florance from Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville. He is seeded first at 116 and comes in with a 48-match unbeaten streak.

The tournament also includes Chenango Forks standout Ryan Ferrara,a two-time state placer who finished sixth at 110 in Division I last season.

In addition to SVEC, other teams competing include Averill Park, Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville, Carthage, Chenango Forks, Chenango Valley Eldred/Sullivan West, Johnson City, Marathon, Norwich, Oxford/Greene, Queensbury, Shenendehowa, Sherburne-Earlville, Sidney, Vestal and Walton/Delhi.
