IAC BOWLING: NEWARK VALLEY DROPS SEASON OPENER TO US/PB (2023-11-28)

AUBURN — Newark Valley opened the 2023-24 IAC Large School season on the road Monday, dropping a pair of 4-0 decisions to Union Springs/Port Byron.

BOYS
The Wolves, with five of their top six bowlers back from last season, won the total pinfall, 2569-2033. Game scores were 776-682, 843-692 and 950-659.

Brandon Eynon, the lone returnee from NV’s IAC tournament championship team, rolled a 194-553.

Dayle Gorsline had a 139-397, Lakoda Gorsline shot 146-379, James Wales pitched in with a 126-366, William Simmons recorded a 138-332 and Mathieu Bauer added a 102-281.

US/PB was led by its top two bowlers from last season, Matthew Howell with a 242-598 and Brandon Young 211-561.

GIRLS
Both teams have returned the majority of last season’s rosters with 11 of the 12 girls among the top seven on their respective rosters last season.

The Wolves, defending IAC Large School regular season champions, won by scores of 776-603, 756-610 and 746-606, and took the total pinfall, 2278-1819.

Bethany Jump paced US/PB with a 178-517 and Jenna Jump had a 176-510.

Rachel Hartman rolled a 151-425 for the Cardinals and Alyssa Brown recorded a 147-414.

Madi Davis added a 159-395, Emily Bird chipped in with a 114-295, Lexi Rosengrant added a 104-273 and Abigail Dufresne tacked on a 103-259.

Newark Valley hosts Odessa-Montour Thursday at 4 p.m. at Cardinal Lanes.
