HS FOOTBALL: SECTION IV RALLIES TO DEFEAT SECTION III (2023-11-21)

Tioga County Sports Report
VESTAL — Section IV battled back from a two touchdown deficit to nip Section III, 16-14, in the Big 44 Ernie Davis / Floyd Little All-Star Classic Sunday.

Shut out until the fourth quarter, the Ernie Davis team (Section IV) got on the scoreboard when Ithaca’s Daniel Parker scored on a short run.

Johnson City quarterback Peyton Brzozowy tossed the PAT pass to Angelo Kryzston of Delhi to close the gap to 14-8.

The Floyd Little team (Section III) QB Evan Carlson-Stephenson stepped on the end line in the final minute to give Section IV a safety.

With one second remaining in the game, Brzozowy found Union-Endicott’s Cooper Hughes in double coverage for a 16-yard game-winning TD.

Section III’s TDs came on passes from Fowler QB Ty'Nez Harp. He and Bishop Ludden wide receiver Gabron Polk hooked up for a 71-yard TD early in the third quarter. Then, with about nine minutes to play, Harp hit wide receiver Jaiden Holmes of Rome Free Academy for a 42-yard score.

Hughes was named the section’s offensive MVP and Delhi’s Tanner Bracchy, who had an interception, was selected the defensive MVP.

Tioga County players on the Section IV roster included SVEC wide receiver Caden McFall, Owego defensive tackle Simeon Kirk, and the Newark Valley duo of running back Dan Truesdail and offensive lineman Seth Northrop.

Newark Valley head coach Ted Hardenstine coached the linebackers and assistant coach Larry Kasmarcik served as the defensive backs coach. Owego assistant coach Rusty Virkler was the receivers coach.
