COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OWEGO GRAD BIDWELL EARNS SPECIAL TEAMS HONOR (2023-11-08)

ALFRED, N.Y. — The Empire 8 Conference has named Alfred University freshman Steven Bidwell as the Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Owego grad scored the first touchdown of the day against Hartwick College as he blocked a punt at the Hawks’ 32-yard line, picked it up at the 30 and carried it into the endzone for an early 6-0 lead in the Saxons’ 42-6 victory Saturday.

Immediately following the PAT, Bidwell would record a tackle on the ensuing kickoff. He also rushed for 76 yards on 11 carries, including a 24-yard gain and scored a second TD on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Alfred (4-5, 2-3 E8) closes out the season Saturday at Brockport.
