COLLEGE SOCCER: OWEGO GRAD RIEGEL EARNS PITCH ACCOLADES (2023-11-08)

ONEONTA — Owego grad Jace Riegel was recently selected to the 2023 Empire 8 Men’s Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team and has also been named Hartwick College’s representative as an Empire 8 Conference Sportsman of the Year.

Riegel, a midfielder, was one of just two freshmen chosen to the all-tournament team.

He played a key role as the Hawks blanked Utica College, 2-0, in the first round of the E8 playoffs and extended eventual champion Elmira College to double overtime before suffering a 1-0 loss in the semifinals.

The E8 selects one player from each team to receive the sportsman award, which honors student-athletes who consistently exhibit the critical traits of competing with honor and integrity.

Riegel saw action in 17 games, starting eight, and scored two goals.

Hartwick finished the season with an 8-5-4 record.
