SECTION IV CROSS COUNTRY: NEWARK VALLEY'S SWITZER EARNS TRIP TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2023-11-02)

CHENANGO FORKS — Newark Valley senior Harley Switzer will wrap up her career at the state meet, after a fourth-place finish in the Section IV Class D championship at Chenango Valley State Park on Thursday.
Switzer earned a trip to states after a time of 21:17.3 put her in fourth place on Thursday.
“(I felt) pretty good, I’m excited,” Switzer said.
For the senior it was a PR on the course, and gives her a chance to move on.
“I just wanted to make it to states,” Switzer said. “Very excited, it’s my senior year, so I’m wicked excited I got a chance to do it.”
There were strong nerves for Switzer going into the race.
“It was bad, I was very nervous,” she said.
Once the race started the nerves started to go away and Switzer was feeling good.
“Not too bad, I felt pretty comfortable and pretty happy with how I was doing the whole time,” Switzer said.
Newark Valley was second as a team at 65 points, with Delhi-SK winning at 23 points.
Brook Illsley was 18th for Newark Valley in 23:27.5 and Olivia Vaughn was 22nd in 23:36.6. Leah Lansing was 24th in 24:39.8.
Malerie Gregrow was 36th in 26:35.4 and Abigail Escalante was 45th in 27:14.2. Emily LaPorte was 48th in 27:45.9. Elizabeth Waterman was 51st in 28:05.9 followed by Cassidy Downey in 28:10.2.
For the boys Newark Valley was eighth at 157. Trumansburg won for the boys at 44 points.
Marcos Escalante was 19th for the Cardinals in 19:29 and Leland Houston was 27th in 20:02.4.
Camden King was 44th in 20:52.4 and James Hackett was 56th in 22:35.2 and Logan Woodin was 58th in 22:43.4.
Bryce Dunn was 71st in 25:04.1 followed by Andrew Lelik in 25:16.2 and Mathieu Bauer was 78th in 29:05.2.
