OSWEGO — Oswego State freshman
Jacob Banks shot a 5-over-par 76 during the second round to lead the Lakers into second place at the Empire 8 Golf Championships Oct. 9.
The Candor grad opened with an 82 and his two-day total of 158 leaves him in fifth place in the medalist challenge.
St. John Fisher held a sizable lead after the first round, its 309 well ahead of Nazareth University (322), Russell Sage College (323) and SUNY Oswego (324).
The tournament will conclude during the spring season with SJF in front with a 615 and Oswego second at 639. Utica University is third (646) with
Nazareth University fourth (648).
Banks also led the Lakers at the Oswego State Fall Invitational held at Oswego Country Club. He tied for 14th with a 77-79—156
He placed 17th at the one-day Elmira College Fall Invitational with a 12-over 84.
At the St. John Fisher Invitational, he shot a 12-over 83 in the final round to finish in 28th place overall with a 251. He posted an 83 in round one and an 85 in round two.
Banks recorded a 76 at the Clarkson Invitational, placing ninth in the one-day tournament. Oswego tied for third in the seven-team tourney with a 307.
He began his collegiate career placing 14th at the St. Lawrence University Invitational with a 78-77—155. The Lakers took fifth out of nine teams (day two results unavailable).
Banks was the low Oswego golfer at the St. Lawrence, Oswego and Empire 8 events, and was the only freshman to travel to all the fall tournaments.
