COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: CURKENDALL, TERRY GIVE ELMIRA COLLEGE A LITTLE TIOGA COUNTY FLAVOR (2023-10-30)
Tioga County Sports Report
ELMIRA — It’s been a tough season for the Elmira College women’s volleyball team. The Soaring Eagles have endured an 0-8 Empire 8 Conference campaign and are 7-16 overall.
Despite the team’s struggles the Eagles’ Asia Curkendall has had a solid season. The junior setter/right side established season highs in kills (55) and digs (195), and has matched her season bests in blocks (15) and points (90 ½).
With a triangular scheduled for Saturday at Alfred State College, the Candor grad could also eclipse the 603 assists she dished out in 2022. She currently has 578.
Elmira picked up a new head coach this season in 2021 grad Savannah Terry, a former standout during Owego’s powerhouse days.
After graduating from EC, she was an assistant at Division III Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. The Pioneers went 42-22 during her tenure.
As a Soaring Eagle, Terry received Empire 8 All-Conference and All-Tournament honors during the 2019 season, and a first-team All-Conference accolade in 2020. She played in 103 matches, racking up close to 600 kills, as well as 187 blocks and 820 points. Her 134 block assists rank No. 7 on Elmira’s career list.
Both Curkendall and Terry were members of state championship teams during their high school careers.
