STAC CROSS COUNTRY: OWEGO SWEEPS CENTRAL DIVISION TITLES AT CONFERENCE MEET (2023-10-22)

ENDICOTT — The Owego varsity cross country teams captured both Central Division titles at the STAC championships Saturday.

Led by top 10 finishes from Jaelyn Chrysler and Sully O’Donnell, the girls and boys teams both placed fourth overall on a muddy course during a morning chill.

Unlike previous years when each division held a separate championship meet, STAC opted to name division champions this season based on the teams’ showings at the STAC meet.

VARSITY GIRLS
Chrysler was the runner-up in the girls race, posting a time of 20:17.1 on the Ann G. McGuinness Elementary School Course. She trailed only Corning senior Sarah Lawson, who clocked 19:27.7.

The River Hawks’ Lilly LaFever was 16th in 22:43.5 and Abigail McHugh took 25th with a 23:32.3.

Newcomer Stella Palladino finished 33rd with a time of 24:13.3 while Madison Webb rounded out the team’s scoring in 37th with a 24:33.9.

Also competing for Owego were Sidney Senko (53rd, 26:36) and Nora Schuyler (61st, 27:13.3).

Corning cruised to the team championship. The Hawks placed all five scoring runners in the top 10, scoring 28 points to runner-up Ithaca’s 85 and third-place Union-Endicott’s 94. Owego recorded 101 points.

VARSITY BOYS
O'Donnell paced the River Hawks with a time of 18:09.5, crossing the finish line 10th overall and first among Central division runners.

Javan Belokur placed 17th, posting a time of 18:40. Magavin Allen crossed the line 32nd in 19:12.1. Levi Saunders was 37th with a 19:20.2 and Derick Singer came in 39th in 19:22.7.

Also running for Owego were 45 44 496 Nick Brown (45th, 19:48.2, Sam Cunningham (55th, 20:06.4), Gavin Heath (61st, 20:17.4) and Noah Heath (65th, 20:25).

Corning senior Doug Cornfield won the race with a time of 16:49.5 as the Hawks edged Ithaca for the team title, 32-38. Both teams had three competitors finish among the top 10.

Oneonta took third with 90 points, followed by Owego with 133.

Next up are the Section IV Class B championships Nov. 2 at Chenango Valley State Park.

JV BOYS
The River Hawks won the division, taking fourth behind Ithaca, Corning and Vestal.

Owego competitors were Luke Saunders (22nd, 20:54.8); Everett Tirinato-Snow (26th, 21:01.4); Cadon Wasielewski (27th, 21:02); Ethan Ianello (52nd, 22:10.2); Jaeden King (92nd, 24:45.7); Maxwell Thompson (93rd, 24:51.4); and Dilan Geiger (101st, 25:26.2).

JV GIRLS
Owego competed with an incomplete team. Eleanora Palmer was 26th (33:36.7), Erica Gillooly placed 29th (33:58.1) and Piper Cunningham finished 32nd (43:37.3).

MODIFIED BOYS
Owego placed third in the division and 10th overall.

Running for the River Hawks were Joram Belokur (49th, 14:01.3); Nick Lomonaco (54th, 14:14.8); Collin Burts (93rd, 16:09); Jacob Preston (100th, 16:30.2); Caleb Rathke (101st, 16:33.1); Logan Vizina (132nd, 22:56.8); Syler Carroll (135th, 23:35.1); Jack McCloe (139th, 28:30.2); Cobie Schaffer (140th, 28:32.4); Jackson Romero (141st, 28:56) and Grady Morse (142nd, 29:32.4).

MODIFIED GIRLS
Owego had an incomplete team. Nora Schuyler was 44th with a 17:28.1, Lionna Heffron took 59th, clocking 20:12.9; Nola Rosenbarker placed 61st in 20:17.6 and Allyson Williams was 72nd in 23:42.5.
