IAC BOYS SOCCER: T-BURG TURNS BACK SVEC TO STAY UNBEATEN (2023-09-28)

CANDOR — The Trumansburg boys soccer team kept its unbeaten record in tact as it squeaked out a 2-1 victory over SVEC in IAC action Thursday night.

T-burg’s Nico Potenza scored in the 28th minute of the second half, assisted by Anthony Blomquist to break a 1-1 deadlock.

The Eagles got their goal in the 27th minutes as Steven Novak tallied on a feed from Noah Banks.

Weston Peake scored the Blue Raiders’ first goal in the 22nd minute of the first half with Potenza earning the assist.

"As coaches we are proud of how the team came out and competed against a very strong and veteran team,” SVEC co-coach Jason Banks said. “This time of the season we want competitive games to prepare for the postseason."

T-burg, which won the first meeting between the two, 4-1, took 12 shots to SVEC’s seven and had six corner kicks to the Eagles’ three.

Sirron Irvin made seven saves for SVEC. Jackson Riggins-George had four for the Raiders, who are ranked 15th in Class C and are 8-0-1 on the season.

SVEC (7-3) visits Elmira Notre Dame Monday. The Eagles won the first meeting, 2-1.
