IAC BOYS SOCCER: NEWARK VALLEY DROPS CLOSE BATTLE WITH NOTRE DAME (2023-09-28)

NEWARK VALLEY — Elmira Notre Dame scored in the first minute of play and went on to defeat Newark Valley, 2-1, on Senior Night in IAC boys soccer action Tuesday.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Crusaders and also marked the sixth time this season that the Cardinals have been involved in a game decided by one goal.

Guilherme Catherino scored the initial goal and Sebastian Capriotti added the game winner in the second half.

James Wales accounted for NV’s goal.

Both teams took eight shots on goal with the Cardinals holding a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Josh Benjamin made seven saves in goal for NV.

Newark Valley travels to 15th-ranked Trumansburg Monday. The Blue Raiders are 8-0-1.
