SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: HEALTH CONCERNS COSTLY IN SVEC LOSS (2023-09-27)

MORAVIA — Health concerns sidelined four SVEC field hockey players Tuesday, proving costly in a 4-0 Section IV field hockey loss to Moravia.

Demi Mouillesseaux, Raegan Sudnikovich, Bethany Lau and Lily Kunzman did not play in the game.

“Tonight we were missing some key players due to injury and illness,” SVEC coach Abby Gentile said. “We weren’t able to collectively step up and fill the roles that were vacant. Hopefully we can get back to full strength pretty soon and put everything back together.”

The Blue Devils scored at 11:31 of the first period with No. 10 (no name listed) getting the goal and Allison Kehoe added in the assist.

It would remain a one-goal contest until Jordan Smith scored unassisted at 10:24 of the third quarter.

Moravia (5-3) tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the final frame with Gabby Heim scoring and Smith earning the assist at 14:08. With 6:34 remaining, Smith scored her second goal and Heim got the assist.

SVEC attempted five penalty corners to Morabia’s three.

Katelyn Klym made nine saves for the Eagles while Emily Griffin had five for the Devils.

The Eagles (2-7) visit defending state champion Vestal Thursday.
